About selection stages

There are three types of selection stage. Each type uses a different method to filter records:

• Chart stage: plot one property against another and visualize candidate materials on a chart. Select materials using selection boxes, index lines, and trade-off curves.
• Limit stage: filter records by applying limits to one or more attributes.
• Tree stage: set selection criteria based on links to records in other tables (cross-tabular selection). For example, you can include only records from MaterialUniverse that have links to specific ProcessUniverse records.

If your design has many design requirements, you can create multiple selection stages, with each stage specifying filters for a different requirement. Or you can combine design requirements within one stage. For example, you can add filters for many properties on a limit stage, or plot a combined property expression on a chart.

All records from the subset are considered in each selection stage; no record is removed from the project, even if it fails to pass a stage. You can enable and disable stages independently of each other to see which records pass all or some of the stages. The Results list by default shows records that pass all enabled stages.
